What is Avanos Radiofrequency Albation (RFA)?
Avanos radiofrequency ablation is a minimally invasive procedure used to relieve chronic pain- often in the back, neck, hip, shoulders, or knees by targeting the nerves that send pain signals to the brain. Using heat generated by radiofrequency energy, the procedure disrupts pain transmission without the need for major surgery or long recovery.
Who is a candidate?
You may be a good candidate for Avanos RFA if you:
-Suffer from chronic back, neck, or other joint pain that hasn't improved with medications or physical therapy.
-Have had temporary pain relief from a diagnostic nerve block (a test injection to locate the pain source).
-Experience pain related to:
-Arthritis or degenerative joint disease
-Facet joint pain (spine)
-Sacroiliac joint pain
-Knee or shoulder pain after surgery or injury
Your pain specialist will determine if RFA is right for you after reviewing your symptoms and diagnostic test results.
How Long Does It Last?
Pain relief from Avanos RFA typically lasts:
-6-12 months for most patients
-Some experience relief for up to 18 months or longer
Because the treated nerves can slowly regenerate, the procedure may be repeated if pain returns.
